The Hunger Games Contest part 2

Now that the movie is out, I want to hear your opinions of it.  When the movie first started, I wasn't too impressed with the cinematography and thought that the camera was all over the place.  After that first scene, it got MUCH better.  I won't spoil the movie for anyone, but there were a couple of instances where I wasn't sure if that was in the book or not.  This is always a fear when they adapt a film from a book, but I thought the additions were wonderful in the movie.  These being the point of views from characters other than Katniss.  I have only seen this movie once and must see it again.  I have had to re-read the books as a result of watching the movie.

To celebrate the movie, I am having another contest.  In this one, I want to hear what your thoughts on the movie were and how they compared to the books.  I didn't make that a requirement of this contest because I know some people don't like to comment on blogs.

I am giving away: 1 collector's edition of The Hunger Games, 2 paperback copies of The Hunger Games with bookmarks, mockinjay tattoos and mockingjay pins and 1 paperback copy of The Hunger Games.  The collector's edition, bookmarks, tattoos and pins were all donated by Scholastic Books.

    1. I read the books over a year ago, so I need to go back and read them to see how close they are to the books. I loved the movie as well.

  4. I thought the movie was spectacular! One of the better ones I have seen of late. It followed the book very closely, which really helped in it's standing with me. Well cast characters and well done sets .the special effects were a little obvious in some spots, but that may be because i know what to look for because I work in the movie industry.
Over all I would give it 6/5 stars :)

    1. I didn't notice the special effects as much so maybe you have an eye for them. I thought that when Peeta was camouflaged to look like the rock was a little extravagant. Where would he get that stuff?

  5. i could talk about it forever! overall, i thought it was one of the better books to movies. i liked it a lot better the second time around (i'm a nerd, i saw it twice opening weekend). i loved the Reaping scene, it made me sick to my stomach with nerves and fear, much like Prim was. however, i feel that it kind of missed the point of the book. i know that it was largely due to trying to avoid an R rating, but it lacked the feeling of desperation & desolation prominent throughout the book. in essence, they sanitized it. Haymitch was too clean, he wasn't the pathetic drunk he is portrayed to be in the books. i love his character because of both his flaws and strength, and they missed his flaws. the book is a satire of reality tv & how the audience's reactions to it are what keep it going on. in the movie, you don't get the feeling of how the people in the districts are not just poor, but are barely able to eat enough to stay alive. i understand that it is a young adult book & they wanted younger kids to be able to see it so they had to avoid an R rating, but at the same time, a book about kids killing kids in such a violent manner isn't really meant for kids to begin with and i think the message of the book could have come across a lot better if they had allowed the violence & desperation to shine through. it is not supposed to be a happy-ending series. it shines because it shows how even freedom comes with a very high price, and goes so far as to question what freedom really is and how sometimes what you see as freedom can be just as bad as what you had before.

    1. I was kind of happy that it didn't have an R rating because then I wouldn't have watched it. I agree that they cleaned it up a little from what I remember in the book. It is a Young Adult book, however. I don't know if they showed the feelings well at the end of the movie. I didn't seem to get the same vibe as I did when I finished the book.

I liked the additions they put in there. Like the different point of views and how they expanded on President Snow and the other characters.

  6. I loved the movie. Obviously the book is always better, being more descriptive and all, but I think they really did a good job with the interpretation. I've seen a lot of botched jobs with book to movie adaptations but I really think THG movie was top notch. I had read that they were not using a golden horn for the cornucopia like it was in the book, but a large metalic silver contraption. I was really concerned. I hate major things being changed and that was pretty major to me, but I actually found I didn't mind it in the movie. That was really my only fault with it.

    1. I thought that the adaptation was really good too. I was surprised. I hope Catching Fire and Mockingjay are just as good. I forgot about the cornucopia being gold. That could've been fixed with some paint. Hmm... I loved the extra scenes in the movie where you got to see other people's POV. They are alluded to in the book, but they are expanded upon in the movie and you really get a sense of what they were feeling.

  8. Definitely the book is better than movie but I liked very much. It does not disappointed me because it hasn't a lot difference from book. The first part of movie was a little boring but I loved the second. I found Jennifer Lawrence amazing and I'm impressed with the colours on the movie.

    Thank you for the giveaway!

  10. The movie didn't disappoint! I loved it, but perhaps it might have been better if I hadn't read the book first - events became so predictable!! If I hadn't read the book beforehand, I'm positive I would've cried when Rue died...but I didn't because I knew it was going to happen. I would have loved to see how Katniss got the pin from Madge, though. It would have been so much more interesting than having her buy the pin in the market...

I think the character development could have been better too. In the book Katniss didn't like Cinna at first but afterwards warmed up to him; I think she was a little too trusting in that movie scene :P Peeta was portrayed well though (: the undying devotion to Katniss was awesome! Overall it is one of the best movies based on a book that I've ever seen, because they really did try to stay true to the plot, which I have to applaud them for :D

  12. i love The Hunger Games as a book and a movie ! literally fell in love with them right away<33 can't wait for next 3 THG movies! of course the book is almost always better but they really made great job with the movie and justice for the book. hope i can soon go to see THG again. i expected a lot from the movie and really didn't disappoint. it was so good, it made me cry and of course (like when i was reading the book) i cried for example when rue died.. i cried a lot . but i would be crazy if i didn't because the movie was so good! if i'd have to say something bad about the movie, i'd just say that i think they would have had to show more action because the death scenes were a bit confusing. but i still loved the movie:)

  14. I thought every character they casted was perfect. Especially Katniss (Jennifer). I felt the prep team were not shown to be that important, and, I hope they have a bigger role in the 2nd and 3rd film. The Cornucopia was so wrong. I pictures it as gold and horn-like shaped. In the book Suzanne Collins does describe it as gold. I loved the tracker jacker scene, Glimmer's death was great, and the dummy was fantastic and looked really realistic. The hallucination part was also amazing, and I loved the effects they used, as well as the ear ringing effect they included in the pyramid explosion. I didn't like Cato's 'death speech' as it wasn't included in the book, but I do like the context of it. Overall I think they did an amazing job and cannot wait for Catching Fire and Mockingjay.

May the odds be ever in your favour.

  18. One thing I loved about The Hunger Games Movie is that it shows the side and thoughts of the people in the capitol like President Snow and Seneca and even also the emotions shown by the people in every district, especially district 11. The scene of Rue’s death , the sympathy given by the people and the start of rebellion in district 11 really give me goosebumps. Those scenes really get me. Even just the salute Katniss and the people had given to each other is really the most touching scene I’ve ever seen. It made me teary eyed and I’m not usually emotional when watching other movies. In the book, it is narrated by Katniss herself so mostly the feelings you get is only from her and from people close to her. In the movie, it’s a different experience. Hands down to all the people who’s behind this movie. Thank you.
